Friends of A1A coordinates adoption of beach sections and coastal parks along the 72 mile Byway to ensure cleanup and beautification occurs. Adoptions are voluntary by organizations, individuals or families. Recognition plaques are placed at the designated areas. Supplies are provided as requested with a requirement to clean a minimum of four times a year and report results and volunteers.

Of designated areas, 50% are adopted in Flagler County and 33% are adopted in St.. Johns County.
