Jane Culpepper
Admiral Member - Crew of 72
Jane Culpepper is the first ADMIRAL in the Crew of 72. By all accounts, she is an avid environmentalist who loves nature and puts her heart and soul into projects related to conservation and preservation of the environment. The educational "Jane's Butterfly Garden" located at the Flagler County Public Library bears her name. In this garden, the public can share Jane's enthusiasm for nature. Jane is an active member of the Flagler County community. She serves on the Flagler County Long Range Planning Board, the Executive Board of the Friends of the Library of Flagler County, the River & Sea Trail Scenic Highway CME, City of Palm Coast Beautification and Environmental Advisory Board (BEAB), and Flagler County Blue Ribbon Wetlands Committee. Jane is a member of the Volusia/Flagler Native Plant Society, Environmental Council of Volusia and Flagler Counties, Flagler Beach Environmental Preservation Council, Inc. (FBEPC), The Garden Club at Palm Coast, Flagler Audubon Society, Sierra Club and other local groups. She has now become an ADMIRAL member supporting the preservation and improvement efforts of the Friends of A1A. What an honor to have her enthusiastic support for the Flagler Community!
Jane's passions--in addition to honoring the memory of her long time soul mate and spouse, Roland--include her dogs, friends and relatives, and sharing her love of nature with those around her. Their hometown is Albany, Georgia, and they spent their adult life in Atlanta. Roland was with Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Goergia. Jane graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in 1974 and a Masters in Education (Community Counseling) in 1982.
Most recently, she donated several framed nature photographs to Flagler County by local photographers, Daryl LaBello and Jon Hardison, that illustrate the REAL NATURAL FLORIDA and are now displayed in the new Flagler County General Services Building.
Jane, Roland and their family of three dogs settled in Palm Coast in December of 1989, after being life long visitors to Florida. She is particularly fond of the scrub jays found along the Scenic A1A Byway and her Butterfly Garden and native plants at the Flagler County Public Library. In addition to nature photography, she proudly shares her photos of her canine family (Coco, Prissy, and Pepper) with others interested in animals and who have animal companions.
Below is a listing of environmental, nature, animal, and local websites worth visiting which promote Jane's passions and love of community and the preservation of nature and beauty along the A1A National Scenic Byway and elsewhere in her beloved Florida. Jane encourages anyone interested in protecting and preserving the natural treasures of Florida to get involved in the local community groups that oversee the conservation and preservation of our native vegetation, habitats and ecosystems, and Florida's natural history for future generations.
It is a dream of hers that development in Florida will quickly become more "GREEN" and that reasonable people will step up to build IN HARMONY WITH NATURE instead of the current irresponsible plundering of our natural resources, regardless of the consequences.
She believes that it is our children's heritage, and our duty to protect it for them. Jane continues to share with others the beauty of the natural world around us.
