Town is incorporated in order 'to stay out of the clutches of the larger Town to its south'. Claude Varn's son was a state legislator. He knew it would be hard to gain approval of incorporation plan if legislators realized that only three families, a total of 10 people, lived within the proposed lines. So strategy was to apply for incorporation on the last day of the legislative session. With legislators eager to adjourn they routinely passed the measure without debate.
